52nd Annual Grammy Award Nominations Announced

The Grammy Award nominations were announced – the following are the film related ones that I could find on the list.

The Climb (From Hannah Montana: The Movie)

Decode (From Twilight)

Jai Ho (From Slumdog Millionaire)

Once In A Lifetime (From Cadillac Records)

The Wrestler (From The Wrestler)

I also want to highlight that Michael Giacchino’s score for Up also received two other noms in the category ‘Field 21 – Composing/Arranging’. They are listed below:

Category 84 – Best Instrumental Composition

Married Life (From Up) – Michael Giacchino

Track from: Up – Soundtrack – [Walt Disney Records]

Category 85 – Best Instrumental Arrangement

Up With End Credits (From Up) – Michael Giacchino

Track from: Up – Soundtrack – [Walt Disney Records]

[For those of you who might not be aware, the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards are for recordings released from October 1st, 2008, through to August 31st, 2009, the ‘eligibility year’.]

Of the categories I listed, I would guess Slumdog Millionaire taking Best Compilation Soundtrack. While I have my favourites, it could be a complete toss up for Best Score Soundtrack – I’ll have to think about that one… And for Best Song I’d like to see it go to The Wrestler perhaps, although Jai Ho has a strong shot at it. As for the other two noms I mentioned, I would love them to go to Mr. Giacchino for Up. The Upsoundtrack – unfortunately denied a proper CD release, is one of my favourites of the year.

Winners will be announced on January 31st, 2010.
