After 24 seasons, At The Movies will air its last episode on August 14th. Premiering in 1975 with Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel, under the name Sneak Previews, the show has had a lasting legacy even as it has had sudden hosting changes over the years. The latest season is hosted by Michael Phillips and A.O. Scott, and in my opinion they’ve been doing a great job. But I guess it just hasn’t picked up the same momentum after the last season, which was pretty lame.
As a long fan of the show, I’ll be watching right through to the end. Hopefully, one day, some version of the show will be returned to its former glory. Until then, the balcony is closed, and we’ll be at the movies.
