Iron Man: The Ultimate Guide to the Armored Super Hero Book Review By Erin V.
Admittedly, I don’t know most of the comic book history, so after seeing the recent (now both 1 & 2) Iron Man films, it is interesting to see how various pieces of the comic book stories have been lifted off the page onto the silver screen. Speaking of which, look for my review of Iron Man 2 shortly…
At 200 pages long, this is certainly an information-rich guide to the Iron Man universe. It’s a nice looking book, with the cover all done in Iron Man gold/red tones, right down to the gold edging on the pages. Open it up and inside you’ll find sections about The Suit, The Armor, Tony Stark/Iron Man, the friends and enemies of Tony Stark, info about his involvement in S.H.I.E.L.D, the Avengers, and much, much more. Essentially this book takes you right through the ages of Iron Man from his debut in 1963, to present day.
Although I wouldn’t ordinarily find myself reading through a book about comic book history, after seeing the Iron Man films, I actually found myself enjoying looking through this one. It is well put together and easy to read, as we’ve come to expect from a Dorling Kindersley book.
One thing you really realize reading through a book like this, is how varied the comic book world is even within one character’s world. The stories/characters often deviate from even themselves as the series reboot over the years, and that’s what’s happened again with the films. Another Iron Man series, more ways to tell the stories.
In short? This is an essential book for long-standing Marvel fans. And with Iron Man 2 just out now, it’s interesting for new fans of the franchise as well.
