Producer to Producer Book Review By Erin V.
The best place to start, is at the beginning… But where is the beginning when you’re new to producing a film? Producer to Producer is a step by step guide, organized with each section in order of the production of filmmaking. From development to distribution, reading this book will guide you through.
This is a guide for the low-budget independent filmmaker, so it goes through stretching to the last dollar to make your production have a quality feel without going broke, as well as ideas for getting funding in the first place. Though long, Producer to Producer is easy to read, and very worthwhile to get completely through. It’s got great information (such as some good-to-know union rules), real examples, and a few interviews in-between.
Also referenced throughout the book are resource-rich sites, including the home-site for the book. Here, you can find examples of script breakdown sheets, music cue templates, and more. After reading this book, it finally seems to make sense to me why the Oscars give Best Picture to the producer – there’s so much involved and they make the production happen.
