The Last Station: The Shooting Script Book Review By Erin V.

The Last Station is the next in ‘The Shooting Script’ series published by Newmarket Press, (others include such films as (500) Days of Summer, and The Hurt Locker, to name but a few).  For those who like to read a bit about the screenplay, and read the form itself, this is a good book.

As a shooting script, this is not to be confused with a spec or production draft, which is what would have been originally written.  These are far harder to come by, but for screenwriting students offer more than a shooting script does.  This is because often by this time, scenes have been cut, or changed.  It’s kind of like the polished, finished version, that’s actually used for the film.  Still, this is worth reading too.

The shooting script for The Last Station includes the deleted scenes that were filmed – which can be watched on the DVD – as well as an analysis as to why some of them were removed.  It is an interesting read (especially about how this film finally came to be), and if you’re getting the DVD, this one would be worth getting as well.
