DVD/Blu-ray Release: The White Ribbon & A Prophet

On June 29th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released The White Ribbon (Das weisse Band) on Blu-ray and DVD.  Today, August 3rd, they are releasing A Prophet (Un prophète), also on both formats.  Released theatrically in Canada earlier this year from Mongrel Media, both films are well worth seeing.

From Germany and France, respectively, both films were highly regarded with critical accolades and awards.  Both were nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at last year’s Oscars, and although cast in many people’s Oscar pools, neither film took home the gold.  The dark horse winner was The Secret in Their Eyes (El secreto de sus ojos) from Argentina, which will be coming to home video on September 21st, also from Sony.

The White Ribbon Blu-ray includes interviews with writer-director Michael Haneke, as well as footage from the film’s premiere.  The White Ribbon is 144 minutes and is rated 14A.

The DVD of A Prophet includes deleted scenes and rehearsal footage, as well as a commentary track.  A Prophet is 155 minutes and is rated 18A.
