On November 16th, The Night of the Hunter was released on the Criterion Collection.  Legendary actor Charles Laughton starred in many films, but this little known work of expressionistic horror was the only one he directed over his long career.  Starring Robert Mitchum in a memorably creepy role, 55 years later, it remains one that film enthusiasts everywhere should see.

 

The 2-disc Blu-ray includes commentary tracks and numerous interviews on the film, as well as Laughton’s own two-and-a-half-hour behind the scenes documentary.  Also included is a booklet featuring essays by film critics Terrence Rafferty and Michael Sragow

 

The Night of the Hunter is 93 minutes and not rated.
