Vampires Suck DVD Review By John C.

The story of Vampires Suck is that of Twilight, only with Becca (eerily close Kristen Stewart impersonator Jenn Proske) instead of Bella, a vampire named Edward Sullen (Matt Lanter) rather than Cullen, and Jacob White (Chris Riggi) instead of Black. Stephanie Meyer’s vampire saga was arguably ripe for a spoof, but unfortunately the only good thing that can be said about this lame, crude, and quite frankly juvenile film is that the title describes it perfectly.
The Blu-ray includes deleted/extended scenes, a gag reel and an unrated cut of the film.

Spoof films come in all shapes and sizes. I’ve seen films in this genre from the very good to the very bad, and everything in-between. I guess what you want to know – or possibly already do from my star rating – is in what category do I consider Vampire’s Suck. Admittedly, there are moments in this spoof of the Twilight saga, where you laugh in spite of yourself, but in all honesty, afterward, you don’t really know why you did. The gags are cheap and certainly don’t warrant a second viewing in my book.

Vampires Suck is a scene for scene spoof of the first two Twilight films. The movie feels more like a copy than a parody, as most of the humour is immature. Personally, I found the Twilight films to be funnier. That being said, I did enjoy seeing the actors in Vampires Suck do good impersonations of the original cast. But this will appeal mostly to the 12-16 year old market, particularly young brothers and sons of female Twihards.

Vampires Suck could have been the perfect movie for those who are sick of hearing the Team Edward vs Team Jacob debate. Had this spoof actually been smart or funny it might have had a following among the anti-Twilight crowd. The plot-line follows the Twilight movies almost exactly and the characters are easily recognizable to the originals. However, the dialogue is rather lame, the jokes juvenile and the acting uninspired, with the exception of Jenn Proske who does a really good Kristen Stewart. Rent this one only if you truly have nothing better to do or are curious as to how badly Vampires really can suck.

*1/2 (out of 4)
Vampires Suck is quite simply a parody of Twilight, with corresponding characters “Becca,” Edward “Sullen,” Jacob, etc. played by relatively obscure talent lampooning many scenes from the original film. It is mildly amusing for those of us who found it difficult to take Twilight itself seriously, but most of the gags are so obvious and often gross that Vampires Suck will mainly appeal to adolescent males only too willing to mock the adulation of their female counterparts for the franchise.

Consensus: Lame and crude, Vampires Suck is a juvenile attempt at spoofing a superior franchise that is arguably ripe for mockery. In the end, the film’s title says it all. *1/2 (Out of 4)
