Reporting the first celebrity death of 2011, legendary character actor Pete Postlethwaite has passed away in a hospital in Shropshire, England on Sunday due to a long battle with cancer. He was 64.
The distinctly looking British character actor first broke out into the eye of the public when he received a surprise Oscar nomination in 1993 for In the Name of the Father, and over the years has had significant, if only small roles in numerous films. From little known gems like Closing the Ring to big movies like last year’s Inception and The Town, Postlethwaite was one of those actors that brought something memorable to every role.
He will be missed by many, may he rest in peace.
