Today, Walt Disney Studios’ Home Entertainment is releasing their seminal 1942 classic Bambi on Blu-ray for the first time, as part of the Diamond Edition series.  The story of a young deer’s coming of age, as set against the backdrop of the changing seasons, this is a beautiful film that has been beloved for generations.

 

In terms of visuals, Bambi is one of the most striking of the studio’s animated classics, with each scene almost like a painting.  There is a surprising amount of depth in each image, and every frame looks spectacular on Blu-ray.  Remaining a perfect example of Walt Disney’s classic motto that “for every laugh there should be a tear,” Bambi is one of the most delightful and moving of the studio’s animated masterpieces.

 

The Blu-ray includes 2 deleted scenes and a deleted song, an introduction by Diane Disney Miller, and Inside Walt’s Story Meetings – an interactive look at the creation of the animated classic.  Also included is a regular DVD of the film.

 

Bambi is 70 minutes and rated G.
