Today, Walt Disney Studios’ Home Entertainment is releasing both Tron: The Original Classic & Tron: Legacy on Blu-ray & DVD. Both films are available separately, or as a 5-disc combo pack.
Tron: The Original Classic: In 1982, audiences were first introduced to the world of Tron. Groundbreaking for its dated but still impressive visual effects and in its view of a computer as a virtual world, it remains an influential part of popular culture. This is the first time the film is widely available, and it has never looked better on Blu-ray.
The Blu-ray comes packed with bonus features, including audio commentary, an extensive ‘making of’ documentary, deleted scenes with introductions by Bruce Boxleitner, as well as a nostalgic look back through the Disney archives with director Steven Lisberger and his son. Also included is a DVD of the film.
Tron: The Original Classic is 96 minutes and rated PG.
Tron: Legacy: With an awesome musical score by Daft Punk and spectacular 3D visuals, last year’s Tron: Legacy was wildly successful as both a throwback and continuation of the original. The visual effects here never cease to impress, and the religious overtones add an equally fascinating level to the film. We reviewed Tron: Legacy when it opened in theatres on December 17th, all considering it a visual thrill ride. Our overall consensus was:
“With spectacular visuals and an excellent score by Daft Punk, Tron: Legacy is a film that should be seen in 3D and on the big screen. This sequel to the 1982 cult-classic is highly recommended for both fans and those unfamiliar with the original film. ***1/2 (Out of 4)”
The Blu-ray includes several ‘behind the scenes’ featurettes, a Daft Punk music video, a preview of the upcoming animated series Tron: Uprising, as well as a nicely done 10-minute short film titled The Next Day: Flynn Lives Revealed. Also included is a DVD of the film. It is also available to buy in 3D.
Tron: Legacy is 125 minutes and rated PG.
