Today, Sony is releasing Community: The Complete Fifth Season on DVD.  This season has failed lawyer Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) returning to Greendale College and becoming a teacher, reuniting his close study group of outsiders Britta (Gillian Jacobs), Abed (Danny Pudi), Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown), Annie (Alison Brie) and Troy (Donald Glover).

Although this was the final season of the show to be broadcast on NBC, the sixth season will be released through Yahoo in the coming year.  The fifth season was also notable for seeing the return of creator Dan Harmon as showrunner, after being fired from the fourth season.

I recently started working my way through Community after seeing the great Harmontown at Hot Docs, and immediately fell in love with the unique cast of characters.  Filled with clever humour, smart pop culture references and a touching heart, it’s easy to see why Community has attracted such a passionate following over the past few years, and the fifth season is a must have for fans of the show.

The two disc set also includes commentary on all thirteen episodes, outtakes, a featurette on the animated episode G.I. Jeff, and an extended production diary with creator Dan Harmon titled Advanced Television Production: 5 Days, 2 Scripts, No Sleep.

Community: The Complete Fifth Season is 278 minutes and rated PG.
