Today, Disney is releasing their most recent sports drama McFarland on Blu-ray. Based on a true story, the inspiring film follows determined coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), who moves to the dirt poor small town of McFarland, California with his family, and starts coaching a group of seven struggling high schoolers into champion-level cross country runners in 1987.
Beautifully filmed and extremely well acted by all involved, and boasting a distinctly Mexican flavour, McFarland is an incredibly inspirational crowdpleaser that earns every one of its emotional beats, offering a rousing celebration of hard work and perseverance. I quite liked this one, and you can read our three views of the film right here.
The Blu-ray also has deleted and extended scenes, a pair of featurettes including reflections from the real life subjects, and a music video for the song “Juntos.”
McFarland is 128 minutes and rated PG.
