Today, Disneynature is releasing their latest documentary Monkey Kingdom on Blu-ray.  The film follows a troop of macaques living in the majestic ruins of an abandoned city in Sri Lanka, and the large fig tree at the centre of their social order.  At the bottom of the tree is Maya, who is left to eat whatever fruit falls on the ground, and faces profound struggles to provide for her young son Kip.

This is arguably the best film yet in the studio’s ongoing series of wildlife films, striking the perfect balance between adorable animals, and emotionally affective drama of the natural world.  Tina Fey does appealing work narrating the film, and Monkey Kingdom is an engaging and beautifully photographed escape into the natural world, for families of every shape and size.  My full review is right here.
