Telling the “mostly true” story of Miss Shephard (Maggie Smith), an eccentric senior who lives in the back of a beat up old van that ends up parked in the driveway of struggling writer Alan Bennett (Alex Jennings), The Lady in the Van is a small gem that is absolutely worth seeing on Blu-ray.

Managing to be both darkly funny and quietly moving, the film is carried brilliantly by Maggie Smith, as the veteran actress delivers one of her best performances to date.  My full review can be found right here.

The Blu-ray includes commentary with director Nicholas Hytner, three featurettes, and several deleted scenes.

The Lady in the Van is a Sony Pictures Classics release.  It’s 104 minutes and rated PG.
