New releases for the week of August 4th, 2023.

Theatrical Releases:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (Wide Release): This animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is one of the nicest surprises of the summer, utilizing its mix of stylized animation, Seth Rogen humour, and teen voice actors to offer a rock solid franchise reboot that delivers both action and heart. As the latest big screen outing for turtle boys Michelangelo (Shamon Brown Jr.), Donatello (Micah Abbey), Leonardo (Nicolas Cantu) and Raphael (Brady Noon), Mutant Mayhem is a lot of fun, but it’s also grounded in a surprisingly sweet coming-of-age story about our young heroes wanting to be accepted as normal teens. I really enjoyed this one. (Full Review)
Meg 2: The Trench (Wide Release): This sequel to the 2018 film finds director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Free Fire) taking over the reigns, as Jason Statham once again battles a giant prehistoric shark. The first film was an okay B-movie, but reviews for this one aren’t great, so keep that in mind. I’ll probably wait to check it out at home.
More Releases: Shortcomings (Limited), A Compassionate Spy (Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema)
Streaming Releases:
Heartstopper: Season 2 (Netflix), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Disney+), Little Dixie (Paramount+)
