New This Week (06/07/2024): Robot Dreams, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, & More!

By John Corrado

New releases for the week of June 7th, 2024.

Theatrical Releases:

Robot Dreams (Limited Release): This Oscar-nominated animated film from Spanish director Pablo Berger follows the friendship between a dog and his robot in 1980s New York City. Seeing this dialogue-free animated film in a packed theatre on the first day of TIFF last year was one of the most wonderful moviegoing experiences I had in 2023. It’s a delightful and bittersweet story about friendship that provides a testimony to the universal language of animated storytelling. (TIFF 2023 Review)

Bad Boys: Ride or Die (Wide Release): This fourth instalment of the Bad Boys franchise finds co-stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reteaming with co-directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who return to the series following their successful 2020 reboot Bad Boys for Life. I haven’t seen it yet, but reviews are pretty decent so I imagine it will please fans of the action series.

More Releases: The Watchers (Wide), I Used to Be Funny (Limited), Longing (Limited)

Streaming Releases:

Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story (Disney+): This National Geographic documentary is now streaming on Disney Plus following its screening at Hot Docs. It’s a very sweet and beautifully filmed portrait of a childless couple in the Scottish Shetland Islands who welcome a wild otter named Molly into their lives. A feel-good watch. (Hot Docs 2024 Review)

More Releases: Star Wars: The Acolyte (Disney+), Sweet Tooth: Season 3 (Netflix)
