In a surprise move, Searchlight Pictures has just released the first trailer for their upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet as the iconic folk singer. The studio has also dated the film (which recently wrapped shooting) for release in the thick of awards season in December.
Directed by James Mangold (Logan, Ford v Ferarri, Walk the Line), the film covers Dylan from his discovery to infamously “going electric” in 1965. The trailer is set to Chalamet performing a cover of “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.” The actor is doing his own singing, and actually sounds pretty good. As a fan of Dylan and Chalamet, I’m impressed by what’s been shown so far, and cautiously optimistic for this film to deliver the goods.
A lot of early Oscar predictions are certainly now being updated with Chalamet in Best Actor; if he pulls this role off, it will be an insanely good year for him coming off the success of Dune: Part Two. The full trailer is below. Please feel free to comment your thoughts if you have watched it!
