New releases for the week of August 30th, 2024.

Theatrical Releases:

Reagan (Wide Release): Dennis Quaid stars in this new biopic of Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States. Director Sean McNamara’s film mainly concerns (and is at its best when focusing on) Reagan’s steadfast fight against communism, to win the Cold War “without firing a single shot.” It feels a bit overstuffed, but gets the big moments right, and Quaid respectfully pulls off the role. Per my review, it’s “a decent biopic, offering an entertaining and at times moving tribute to one of the 20th century’s most prominent leaders.” As a Reagan admirer, I very much enjoyed it.
