Trailer Released for Luca Guadagnino’s Queer

By John Corrado

The first trailer has just been released for Luca Guadagnino’s Queer, which A24 acquired out of Venice. The film is an adaption of the William S. Burroughs novel of the same name, and stars Daniel Craig in the leading role as a gay man roaming about Mexico after the war. I wasn’t exactly sure how A24 was going to market this one, but the trailer does a decent job of suggesting the film’s hazy, dreamlike tone (including the anachronistic but brilliant use of Nirvana).

I saw Queer when it played at TIFF (you can read my review from the fest here), and I was a fan. It’s a very different – read, less mainstream – affair than Guadagnino’s Challengers, which became a box office hit earlier this year. This is much more of an art film, especially in the experimental drug trip last act. But I admired and appreciated the effort overall, including Craig’s captivating performance.

The film is being released in theatres in December, and MUBI will be distributing in Canada. The full trailer is below, please feel free to comment your thoughts after you have watched it!
