New Teaser Trailer for Pixar’s Elio

By John Corrado

Disney has just debuted a new poster and teaser trailer for Pixar’s Elio, which was initially supposed to be released in theatres this past March, before being pushed back until next year. This is the first new footage of the film since the original teaser trailer that was released back in 2023 with Elemental.

The project has gone through several changes since then. Notably, this was supposed to be the solo debut of Coco co-director Adrian Molina, but co-directors Domee Shi (Turning Red) and Madeline Sharafian (the short film Burrow) have now taken over the primary directing roles (though Molina will retain his credit). This isn’t exactly new for Pixar (a similar thing happened on Brave). But the film is now being released in the wake of Inside Out 2, which became a mega hit for the studio, putting even more pressure on it to succeed.

This teaser is set to a version of “Such Great Heights” (a song immortalized in Garden State twenty years ago). We see a bit more of lonely protagonist Elio’s (voiced by Yonas Kibreab) life on Earth, before being abducted to an alien world where he is mistaken as their leader. The cast also includes Zoe Saldaña as Aunt Olga, Remy Edgerly as Glordon, Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon, Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa and Shirley Henderson.

I’m curious to see how this one turns out. It certainly looks vibrant and colourful. I like the tone they are going for in the Earth scenes, and Elio has potential to be a very relatable protagonist. But will it reach the heights of top tier Pixar? The film opens in theatres on June 13th, 2025. The full teaser is below, please feel free to comment your thoughts!
