Here’s a nice surprise. Distributor NEON has released the official redband trailer for Finn Wolfhard’s Hell of a Summer, the summer camp slasher that the Stranger Things actor co-directed with friend Billy Byrk. Wolfhard and Byrk also cast themselves in supporting roles, while Fred Hechinger – whose stock as an actor has only gone up in the past year with his performances in Thelma, Gladiator II and Nickel Boys – stars in the film as a camp counsellor.

I saw this one when it premiered as part of TIFF’s Midnight Madness section way back in 2023 (you can read my review from the festival here), and it’s a pretty enjoyable throwback slasher movie, that shows promise for Wolfhard and Byrk as young filmmakers. The trailer offers a good preview of what to expect in terms of the film’s tone. I’m glad to see it finally being released.

The film will open in theatres on April 18th. The full trailer is below.
