Theatrical Releases:

I’m Still Here (Limited Release): This surprise Best Picture nominee is based on the life of Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres), whose husband was abducted by the government during Brazil’s military dictatorship in the 1970s. Directed by Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries), the film serves as an emotional portrait of a family in flux, set against this dark historical backdrop. It’s one of the leading contenders for International Feature as well, and Torres is also in the running for Best Actress for her emotional performance as a wife and mother seeking answers. Dog Man (Wide Release): This latest from DreamWorks Animation (following their Oscar-nominated The Wild Robot), is an adaptation of the Dav Pilkey (Captain Underpants) books about a police man and police who get stitched together to create the titular Dog Man. Reviews are decent. The animation looks nicely stylized (in a similar vein to DreamWorks’ Captain Underpants movie), and I’m sure it’s amusing, especially for kids. I’ll check it out at some point.

Companion (Wide Release): Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid star in this sci-fi thriller that is being sold by Warner Bros. as a “new kind of love story” from the creators of Barbarian and the studio that brought us The Notebook. That’s quite the combination, so I’m automatically curious about this one, especially since the reviews have been solid.

More Releases: Paying for It (Limited), Dark Match (Limited), Deva (Limited), Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story (Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema)

Streaming Releases:

Queer (MUBI), You’re Cordially Invited (Prime Video), Tom Green: I Got a Mule! (Prime Video), Tom Green Country (Prime Video), The Recruit: Season 2 (Netflix), Paradise (Disney+)
