New releases for the week of April 18th, 2025.

Theatrical Releases:
Sinners (Wide Release): Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed) directs this period piece vampire movie, starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role. Reviews have been stellar for the film, which was shot on 65mm film by cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw. I’ve been sold on all the trailers, so am very excited to check it out soon.
The Wedding Banquet (Limited Release): This remake of Ang Lee’s 1993 film focuses on two queer couples – Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) and Lee (Lily Gladstone), and Chris (Bowen Yang) and Min (Han Gi-chan) – who create an unconventional arrangement for Angela to marry Min so he can get his green card, in exchange for him funding Lee’s IVF treatments. It’s an enjoyable crowdpleaser. The cast is solid, with Oscar-winner Youn Yuh-jung being a standout as the Korean grandma. (Full Review)
