New This Week (05/09/2025): Clown in a Cornfield, Sharp Corner, & More!

By John Corrado

New releases for the week of May 9th, 2025.

Clown in a Cornfield

Theatrical Releases:

Clown in a Cornfield (Wide Release): This mostly enjoyable slasher movie introduces a new creepy clown into the horror canon; Frendo the Clown, who looms large over the small town of Kettle Springs, where lonely teenager Quinn (Katie Douglas) has just moved with her dad (Aaron Abrams). This latest from director Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but has fun leaning into the usual tropes, with a few more self-aware, meta touches. A good time for genre fans. (Full Review)

Sharp Corner (Limited Release): Ben Foster stars as a family man who becomes consumed by the car crashes happening on the front lawn of his new home, in this Halifax-shot sophomore feature from Canadian filmmaker Jason Buxton (Blackbird). The film largely works as an intriguing character study, that is elevated every step of the way by Foster’s fascinating transformation. (Full Review)
