The Cannes film festival is still going strong over in France, and NEON has just put out the first teaser trailer for French filmmaker Julia Ducournau’s Alpha, one of the most anticipated films in the Official Competition. This is, of course, Ducournau’s follow-up to her 2021 shock Palme d’Or winner Titane (and her third film following her debut Raw).
This teaser is short – only 43 seconds – but it gives us an intriguing glimpse at what to expect from the tone of Alpha, without showing too much. The title refers to the name of the protagonist, a “troubled” 13-year-old girl (played by Mélissa Boros). I was totally on board with Ducournau’s mesmerizing body horror film Titane, and it was one of those films that felt so unique and visionary that I’m automatically excited for whatever the director is doing next.
The film premieres at Cannes today, and will be released in theatres later this year. The teaser trailer is embedded below.
