Paramount has just put out the full-length trailer for The Naked Gun. This is director Akiva Schaffer’s reboot of the classic Leslie Nielsen police spoofs, starring Liam Neeson as the son of Nielsen’s Frank Drebin. Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser are also in the cast.
There are a number of solid jokes in the trailer, and I’m a huge fan of the originals, so I’m cautiously optimistic that this will work. While Neeson’s casting might’ve caused some initial confusion, I’ve always been on board with it. The reason why the originals worked so well is because Nielsen (who also started as a serious actor) played it completely straight, and Neeson seems to be following the same style, with every dead serious line delivery.
It’s also cool that we are getting a big comedy like this in theatres again. The film opens exclusively in theatres on August 1st, the full trailer is below!
