The first trailer has just been released for Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere. This is, of course, the Bruce Springsteen biopic (kind of unmistakable now that they added his name to the title), starring Jeremy Allen White as the iconic musician. It’s directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart).
We get a glimpse at the film’s structure (including black-and-white flashbacks to his childhood), which is specifically focused on the recording of his Nebraska album and the period he was going through in his life. Jeremy Allen White looks very good here as Springsteen (even if his physical resemblance isn’t exact), but it’s another Jeremy who also seems to once again be lighting up the screen in a supporting role; Jeremy Strong as Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau.
I’m a Springsteen fan, and I think White is a phenomenal actor (especially on The Bear), so I’m looking forward to this and hoping it delivers. It will be interesting to see if Strong gets a second Supporting Actor nomination for this, and White is obviously being lined up as a major Oscar contender. My one caveat is that I’m not that big a fan of the last minute change adding Springsteen’s name to the film’s title; just Deliver Me from Nowhere is much cleaner.
The film opens in theatres on October 24th from 20th Century Studios, and I’m hoping this one comes to TIFF before that. The full trailer is below.
