First Trailer for Michael Angelo Covino’s Splitsville

By John Corrado

NEON has just put out the first trailer for Splitsville, the new relationship comedy from director, co-writer and co-star Michael Angelo Covino. This is Covino’s second collaboration with co-writer and co-star Kyle Marvin, following their promising feature debut The Climb.

Covino and Marvin’s latest (which premiered out of competition at Cannes in the Premiere section), stars them alongside Dakota Johnson and Hit Man’s Adria Arjona, in a story about two couples that gets into the messiness of infidelity and open relationships. Johnson, also starring in Materialists this summer, which is currently finding its place at the box office, looks to give another solid performance here.

I’m looking forward to checking this one out. In the meantime, I would recommend watching Covino’s The Climb, an entertaining portrait of male friendship told through a series of inventive long takes, to get a taste of his filmmaking style. Splitsville starts a limited run in theatres on August 22nd, before expanding on September 5th. It’s being handled in Canada by Elevation Pictures. The full trailer is below.
