Here’s a nice surprise; Focus Features has just put out the first teaser trailer for Bugonia, the new film from Greek auteur Yorgos Lanthimos. This latest work from the filmmaker behind the Oscar-winning Poor Things and The Favourite is a remake of the Korean film Save the Green Planet! from 2003.

The story centres around two conspiracy theorists, played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis, who kidnap a powerful CEO because they believe she is an alien. The CEO is played by none other than Emma Stone, who of course won her second Oscar for Poor Things, and also starred in The Favourite and Lanthimos’ 2024 anthology film Kinds of Kindness (alongside Plemons). This is shaping up to be one of the most fruitful director-actor pairings maybe ever.

This teaser showcases the darkly comic tone of Bugonia, and also offers a glimpse at the impressive-looking production design, and the cinematography by Lanthimos regular Robbie Ryan. Plemons and Stone look great as always. I’m excited for it. The film opens with a “special limited engagement” on October 24th, before going into wide release on October 31st.
