Theatrical Releases:

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Wide Release): The biggest of this week’s new releases is the latest – and most successful – attempt at bringing Marvel’s Fantastic Four to the big screen. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach star as the titular four, a family of superheroes going up against Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). I saw this the other day in IMAX, and it’s an enjoyable comic book movie, that puts the Marvel Cinematic Universe back on the right path. I especially dug the 1960s retro-futuristic aesthetic and Michael Giacchino’s score. (Full Review)

Oh, Hi! (Limited Release): Molly Gordon and Logan Lerman star as a couple on a romantic weekend getaway that spirals out of control in this indie romantic dramedy with a darkly comic twist that premiered at Sundance earlier this year and now opens in limited release. Their performances keep it mostly entertaining, but the often irrational character choices can be frustrating to watch in a mildly fun but uneven film. (Full Review)

More Releases: Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore (TIFF Lightbox), The Home (Limited), Bambi: The Reckoning (Limited)

Streaming Releases:

Happy Gilmore 2 (Netflix), The Woman in the Yard (Prime Video)
