New This Week (08/01/2025): The Naked Gun, The Bad Guys 2, & More!

By John Corrado

New releases for the week of August 1st, 2025.

Liam Neeson plays Frank Drebin Jr. and Pamela Anderson plays Beth Davenport in The Naked Gun from Paramount Pictures.

Theatrical Releases:

The Naked Gun (Wide Release): Liam Neeson takes over the iconic Leslie Nielsen role in director Akiva Schaffer’s reboot of the classic police spoof series. And it’s really, really funny. Neeson is wonderfully deadpan in the role of Frank Drebin Jr., with the film embracing the classic multiple-gags-a-minute formula, with a remarkable batting average of jokes that land. I had a great time at the screening the other night. This thing needs to be a hit. Go see it so we can get more comedies released in theatres again. (Full Review)

The Bad Guys 2 (Wide Release): This DreamWorks Animation sequel finds the titular “bad guys” led by Mr. Wolf (voiced by Sam Rockwell) now trying to be good. Reviews are quite good for this sequel. I enjoyed the first film quite a bit back in 2022 (you can read my review here), and look forward to checking this one out as well.

Together (Wide Release): Real life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie star in this body horror rom-com as a couple who find themselves being bound together after moving to the country. If the whole metaphor feels a bit obvious, the film is pretty fun to watch, and the two leads obviously have good chemistry together. Opened July 30th. (Full Review)
