First Trailer for Rental Family, starring Brendan Fraser

By John Corrado

Searchlight Pictures has revealed our first look at Rental Family, which is shaping up to be one of the hottest titles of the fall. Brendan Fraser, fresh off his Oscar win for The Whale, stars in the film as a washed up American actor living in Japan, who gets hired by a “rental family” company.

I’m a sucker for this sort of crowdpleasing, midbudget dramedy, which is exactly what the trailer suggest director Hikari (Netflix’s Beef) will deliver with Rental Family. It looks enjoyable and touching, with a unique premise. The film is set to have its world premiere at TIFF next month. If this thing lands with audiences like I suspect it will, it will be a major contender for the People’s Choice Award.

Searchlight is releasing the film in theatres on November 21st, right at the height of awards season. Could this shape up to be a major contender, and net Fraser another nomination? We shall see. The full trailer is below.
