Teaser Trailer for Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly

By John Corrado

Netflix has just put out the first teaser trailer for their upcoming film Jay Kelly. This is the new movie from filmmaker Noah Baumbach, his first since the divisive, big budget White Noise in 2022. This one is poised to follow the path of Marriage Story in 2019, and put him squarely back in the Oscar race.

George Clooney stars as the titular Jay Kelly, an old school movie star. Adam Sandler plays his assistant, and I’m excited for him to be back in the Oscar conversation (fingers crossed he actually gets in this time after missing for Uncut Gems). They are just two members of an impressive ensemble cast that also includes Emily Mortimer, who co-wrote the script with Baumbach; his real life partner Greta Gerwig; and Laura Dern, who won an Oscar for Marriage Story.

The teaser gives us a nice taste of what to expect from all of them. I’m a big fan of Baumbach’s work, so this is easily one of my most anticipated of the fall. The film is confirmed to premiere at Venice and NYFF, and I’m hoping it will be a late addition to TIFF as well. Netflix is releasing this one in select theatres on November 14th, before streaming on December 5th. The teaser trailer is below.
