A24 has just released the first trailer for Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet as aspiring ping pong player Marty Mauser. It’s easily one of the most hotly anticipated films of the rest of the year, and this trailer (set to “Forever Young”) suggests the film will live up to the hype.
This is the first solo directorial effort from Josh Safdie, one half of the sibling duo that made Good Time and Uncut Gems (brother Benny also has his own A24-backed solo effort coming out this fall; The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne Johnson). And it looks like Safdie will deliver, with Chalamet continuing to impress in the lead role. The nicely cut trailer also shows off the massive ensemble cast, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin O’Leary (!), and Fran Drescher.
The film opens in theatres on Christmas Day, showing that A24 has a ton of confidence in this one. Will it be another holiday box office hit for Chalamet following Wonka and A Complete Unknown over the past two years? Will Chalamet get another Oscar nomination, and potentially win this time around? The full trailer is below, please feel free to drop your own thoughts below after watching it!
