Netflix has just put out the first trailer for Ballad of a Small Player, the latest film from German director Edward Berger. Berger’s last two films were, of course, the Oscar heavyweights Conclave and All Quiet on the Western Front, so expectations are naturally high for this one.
Colin Farrell stars as a high stakes gambler in Las Vegas. Tilda Swinton and Fala Chen round out the cast. The main selling point seems to be the cinematography by James Friend, re-teaming with Berger after winning an Oscar for All Quiet on the Western Front. The film’s visuals look vibrant and slick.
The film opens in select theatres on October 15th, before premiering on Netflix on October 29th. It will be having its Canadian premiere at TIFF before that, where I’m hoping to catch the film. The full trailer is embedded below.
