Theatrical Releases:

Honey Don’t! (Limited Release): Margaret Qualley stars as private investigator Honey O’Donahue in this second solo effort from director Ethan Coen, following last year’s Drive-Away Dolls. I was pretty mixed on this one. It’s occasionally entertaining, and Qualley has some fun with the role, backed by a supporting cast that includes Chris Evans as a sleazy pastor and Aubrey Plaza as Honey’s female cop love interest. But it doesn’t really add up to much, and ends up feeling pretty empty. (Full Review)

Ne Zha II (Wide Release): This Chinese blockbuster, the sequel to 2019’s Ne Zha, is already the highest grossing animated film of all time, beating the record just set by Inside Out 2. This new version being released in North American theatres is an English-language dub, put out by A24. I got to screen the film in IMAX last week, and it’s a massive big screen spectacle. The film runs long at nearly two-and-a-half-hours, and the mythology can get convoluted. But the dazzling visuals and action scenes are enough to warrant a recommendation to see this one on the big screen. (Full Review)
