New This Week (08/29/2025): Splitsville, Caught Stealing, & More!

By John Corrado

New releases for the week of August 29th, 2025.

Adria Arjona and Kyle Marvin in SPLITSVILLE

Theatrical Releases:

Splitsville (Limited Release): Director Michael Angelo Covino and his real life friend Kyle Marvin co-write, co-produce and co-star in this comedy exploring the modern concept of open relationships. Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona play the wives of their two characters, with the film exploring the messy dynamics between the two couples. I enjoyed this one. It’s an entertaining film that unfolds with a somewhat heightened comic tone, building off the promise that Covino and Marvin showed in their debut feature The Climb. Opens limited this week, expanding on September 5th. (Full Review)

Caught Stealing (Wide Release): Director Darren Aronofsky is back, following up to his Oscar-winning tearjerker The Whale with this gritty New York crime comedy starring Austin Butler (who incidentally lost the Oscar for Elvis to Brendan Fraser for The Whale, funny how that worked out). This looks like a departure from Aronofsky’s heavier films, but reviews are solid, and I’m looking forward to seeing it. Aronofsky has never let me down, even at his most divisive. Plus, Butler is one of our hottest young actors, and the plot revolves around a cat. I’m sold.
