New releases for the week of October 24th, 2025.

Theatrical Releases:
Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere (Wide Release): Jeremy Allen White stars as Bruce Springsteen, in this biopic that focuses specifically on the depression he experienced while recording his great 1982 album Nebraska from his bedroom in New Jersey. As a Springsteen fan, I enjoyed the character-driven approach, with director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) presenting his film as a companion piece to the stripped down album. White is excellent as Springsteen, as is Jeremy Strong in a supporting role as manager Jon Landau. (Full Review)
Regretting You (Wide Release): This Colleen Hoover adaptation is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), and stars Allison Williams, Dave Franco, Mckenna Grace and Mason Thames, in a story that spans adult melodrama and teen romance. The reviews are tepid, but I’m in the minority on kinda enjoying this one. It’s not great by any means, and can get pretty soapy, but basically delivers what you want from this sort of thing. Grace and Thames are the bright spots. (Full Review)
Bugonia (Limited Release): This latest film from Yorgos Lanthimos follows a conspiracy theorist (Jesse Plemons) and his cousin (Aidan Delbis) who kidnap a powerful CEO (Emma Stone), believing she is actually an alien. Lanthimos blends elements of conspiracy thriller and pitch black comedy, in what is essentially a chamber piece carried by a trio of compelling performances from Plemons, Delbis and Stone. Opens in select theatres today, before expanding next week. (Full Review)
It Was Just An Accident (Limited Release): Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi’s Palme d’Or winner offers a complex portrait of life in modern Iran. The formerly imprisoned director explores themes of revenge, following a factory worker (Vahid Mobasseri) who kidnaps a man that he believes is his former captor (Ebrahim Azizi). Panahi delivers a suspenseful and surprisingly entertaining mix of thriller and dark comedy of errors, all the more remarkable for the circumstances under which it was filmed. Opens in limited release, including at TIFF Lightbox. (TIFF 2025 Review)
Blue Moon (Limited Release): Richard Linklater directs this biopic of Lorenz Hart, starring Ethan Hawke as the iconic lyricist. The film takes place in a bar on the night that Hart’s former collaborator Richard Rodgers (Andrew Scott) is premiering Oklahoma!. I saw this one at TIFF, and I’ve found myself thinking about it quite a lot since then. The writing is exceptional, with Hawke delivering one of the best performances of the year, in what serves as a powerhouse showcase for him. Opens in limited release, including at TIFF Lightbox. (TIFF 2025 Review)
