Warner Bros. has just revealed the title and released the first teaser for Birdman director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s latest film. It’s called Digger, and stars Tom Cruise in the leading role of a man named Digger Rockwell. Everything about this one has been kept very secretive throughout the production, when it was going under the working title “Judy.”
This first glimpse doesn’t reveal any of the plot, but shows Cruise dancing with a shovel. It’s an intriguing glimpse, that many hope will put Cruise back in the Oscar conversation to finally win a competitive award. We also get the tagline “a comedy of catastrophic proportions.” So Iñárritu seems to be back in darkly comic Birdman mode, with that film’s Oscar-winning co-writers Nicolás Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris Jr. onboard this one as well.
It’s shot in VistaVision by Iñárritu’s frequent collaborator Emmanuel Lubezki, and the cinematography looks expectedly stunning. The film opens exclusively in theatres on October 2nd, 2026. The full teaser is below.
