New releases for the week of December 25th, 2025.
Merry Christmas and God bless us, everyone!

Theatrical Releases:
Marty Supreme (Wide Release): Timothée Chalamet stars as a ping pong player in this exhilarating 1950s-set sports epic from Josh Safdie, one half of the directing duo behind Good Time and Uncut Gems. It has the same energy as those films, following Chalamet’s titular Marty Mauser as he tries to hustle up enough cash to fund his adventures. It’s finally arriving in theatres after Chalamet’s insane press tour to promote the film and drum up audience interest. The early box office numbers suggest that it’s been working, and once you see the movie it will all click into place that he’s essentially been in character the entire time. This is the movie of the year, and Chalamet is every bit as good as you’ve heard, delivering a career-defining performance. Don’t miss it. (Full Review)
Song Sung Blue (Wide Release): Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson star in this biopic of Neil Diamond tribute artists Mike and Claire Sardina, who formed the musical duo Lightning and Thunder. Jackman and Hudson both do very good work here, with Diamond’s music providing an irresistible backdrop to a film that works as both crowdpleaser and tearjerker. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. (Full Review)
No Other Choice (Limited Release): Park Chan-wook’s latest film is a darkly comic satire that draws comparisons to the work of fellow Korean auteur Bong Joon Ho. Lee Byung-hun stars as a family man in search of a job after getting laid off, who has to find ways to eliminate his competition. This was one of the best movies I saw at TIFF, and one of the buzziest as well, winning the festival’s inaugural International People’s Choice Award. It’s an absolutely wild ride of twists, turns, and bravura filmmaking touches. Opens at TIFF Lightbox in Toronto. (TIFF 2025 Review)
