New releases for the week of January 9th, 2026.

Theatrical Releases:
Father Mother Sister Brother (Limited Release): Jim Jarmusch’s latest film, which won the Golden Lion at Venice, is a triptych following three sets of family members across three separate chapters. The ensemble cast includes some lovely work from Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik and Tom Waits, as well as Charlotte Rampling, Vicky Krieps and Cate Blanchett. I enjoyed this one, with the approach allowing Jarmusch to offer a collection of his usual dryly humorous and melancholic observations of human nature. Fans of the filmmaker should check it out. Opens at TIFF Lightbox. (Full Review)
The Choral (Limited Release): This WWI-era drama, which premiered at TIFF last year, stars Ralph Fiennes as the new chorus master who is brought in to lead a Yorkshire choral society in 1916. It’s the sort of satisfying, crowd-pleasing period drama that the British do very well, with Fiennes delivering another strong performance in the lead. (Full Review)
Rosemead (Limited Release): Lucy Liu stars in this disturbing, inspired-by-true-events character drama that follows a Chinese-American mother with terminal cancer who is struggling to support her schizophrenic teenage son (Lawrence Shou). It’s a deeply unsettling film, but the strong performances carry it through. (Full Review)
