Blu-ray Review: Song Sung Blue (Collector’s Edition)

By John Corrado

Director Craig Brewer’s Song Sung Blue is now available on Blu-ray, following a run in theatres. The film, of course, netted Kate Hudson an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, which I personally feel is well-deserved.

Hudson stars in the film alongside Hugh Jackman, who portray the real life husband and wife Neil Diamond impersonators known as Lightning & Thunder. I was a pretty big fan of this one (you can read my full review right here), and it’s grown on me even more the more that I think about it.

Brewer’s film embraces being an old school mix of crowdpleaser and tearjerker, leaving us with the sentiment that they don’t make ’em like they used to. The performances are excellent, and the Neil Diamond music adds a lot to the film. I would recommend checking it out at home if you missed this one in theatres, and the Blu-ray is a solid choice for fans with the film’s replay value.
