New releases for the week of February 27th, 2026.

Theatrical Releases:
Scream 7 (Wide Release): The biggest new release this week is this seventh instalment in the meta slasher movie franchise, which arrives thirty years after the first one and brings back original star Neve Campbell in the leading role as Sydney Prescott. Sydney has to contend with a new Ghostface killer, alongside her teenaged daughter Tatum (Isabel May). I saw this one the other night, and personally found it to be fun. Sure, it’s not quite as inventive as the NYC-set sixth one, and more of a straight-forward legacy sequel. But it still offers a good time for horror fans, and I enjoyed seeing Campbell back in the lead. (Full Review)
In Cold Light (Limited Release): This Canadian thriller from Quebec filmmaker Maxime Giroux, making his English-language debut, is set in Alberta and stars Maika Monroe as a young ex-convict trying to get her life back on track after going to jail in a drug bust. The story about an ex-con getting pulled back in to their life of crime isn’t exactly original, but the film boasts some fine performances from Monroe and especially Oscar-winner Troy Kotsur as her father. Dreams (Limited Release): This latest collaboration between Mexican filmmaker Michel Franco and Jessica Chastain follows a wealthy socialite in San Francisco having an affair with an undocumented Mexican ballet dancer (Isaac Hernández). It’s presented with Franco’s usual detached, almost clinical style, and works pretty well until it comes apart at the end. (Full Review)
The President’s Cake (Limited Release): This charming neorealist throwback is set in Iraq in the early-90s, and follows a young girl (Baneen Ahmad Nayyef) on a quest to find enough ingredients to bake a cake for her class in honour of President Saddam Hussein’s birthday. It’s enjoyable and tragicomic, guided by a cast of mostly non-actors. Opens at TIFF Lightbox in Toronto. (Full Review)
EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert (Wide Release): Following its week-long IMAX exclusive run that began last Friday, director Baz Luhrmann’s stunning Elvis concert documentary is now expanding to regular theatres. I’ve already written about this one a couple times, and it’s an absolute must see, especially for Elvis fans. (TIFF 2025 Review)
