Ryan Coogler’s Sinners Wins Big at the 2026 Dorian Film Awards

By John Corrado

The winners of the 2026 Dorian Film Awards, presented by the group GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, have been announced. Leading the pack is Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which took home a record seven awards, including Film of the Year and Director of the Year.

In a statement, GALECA Executive Director Diane Anderson-Minshall said “in an era when spectacle often eclipses substance, Sinners reminded us that a blockbuster can also be strong, political, and profoundly human. Our members were struck by its fearless storytelling, its powerful ensemble performances, and its examination of community, resilience, and moral complexity across histories too often pushed to the margins. The sweep at this year’s Dorian Awards reflects a rare alignment of critical admiration and cultural urgency, and reminds us why cinema still matters.”

In the gender-neutral acting categories, Rose Byrne won Film Performance of the Year for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, while Amy Madigan took home the supporting award for her memorable work in Weapons. Elsewhere, Sentimental Value won Non-English Language Film of the Year, while A24’s Pillion was named LGBTQ Film of the Year.

The Netflix sensation KPop Demon Hunters was named Animated Film of the Year. In the non-fiction categories, Netflix True Crime film The Perfect Neighbor won Documentary of the Year, while my personal favourite Come See Me in the Good Light was (very deservingly) named LGBTQ Documentary of the Year.
