Fall Preview 2010

By John C.

For the first time in quite some time a Friday has come without a new review.  But with the only big release being Resident Evil: Afterlife, there wasn’t actually much of note opening.  Although that hardly matters to Torontonians as there are numerous great films playing over the next week at TIFF.  We’ll be having reviews of many of them once they’re released.  The festival kicked off in true Canadian fashion last night with Score: A Hockey Musical, and the TIFF Bell Lightbox is officially opening it’s doors this Sunday with a free block party.

So no new reviews today, but come back next week for our takes on Easy A, and on September 24th we’ll be having reviews of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, You Again and Never Let Me Go.

Many of you have probably also noticed our new header promoting a selected 8 of the upcoming fall slate.  Including posters for Legend of the Guardians (Sep. 24th), Never Let Me Go (Sep. 24th), The Social Network (Oct. 1st), Secretariat (Oct. 8th), Score (Oct. 22nd), 127 Hours (Nov. 5th), Harry Potter 7: Part 1 (Nov. 19th) and Tangled (Nov. 24th),  this is still only a small selection of the many hopefully great films we’ll be seeing over the coming months.

October will also see the release of It’s Kind of a Funny Story on the 8th, Conviction on the 15th, and Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter on the 22nd.  In November there’s also Todd Phillips’ Due Date with Robert Downey Jr. & Zach Galifianakis, which opens on the 5th alongside Dreamworks’ Megamind and Gareth Edwards’ Monsters.  The 24th of November will also see the release of Love & Other Drugs.

And after that we’ll officially be in the middle of the Holiday movie season with Oscar contenders like Black Swan (Dec. 1st) and The King’s Speech (Dec. 10th) being released.  So there you have it – a teaser of what to expect from the coming weeks and months, as well as a look at just some of the many good movies to look forward to.
