Some of these releases are quite a bit out of date, but are still worth mentioning…
Some of these are great titles for the fall, with Thanksgiving coming up this weekend and Halloween at the end of the month, while others are classics that would make great gifts either now or later on in the season.
Shiloh/Saving Shiloh – Blu-ray (September 14th)
Based on the award-winning book by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, Shiloh was released in 1996 as a family adventure. Ten years later in 2006, another film in the series, Saving Shiloh was released. Now, both are available as a two-pack on Blu-ray. Shiloh is 91 minutes, Saving Shiloh is 90 minutes; both are rated PG.
Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving – Blu-ray/DVD (September 7th)
I think most of us remember and love watching this classic. Now on Blu-ray, it is one worth owning to revisit every year. Also included is another story on the disc, The Mayflower Voyagers from the ‘This is America, Charlie Brown’ series, as well as a featurette called Popcorn & Jellybeans: Making a Thanksgiving Classic. Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving is 25 minutes, and is rated G.
Bugs Bunny’s Howl-oween – DVD (September 7th)
For those of us who love and remember the cartoons, or for kids just watching them now, this is a real treat. The DVD also includes a bonus cartoon Hair-Raising Hare, and an interactive puzzle for the kids. Bugs Bunny’s Howl-oween is 35 minutes, and is rated G.
Hamlet – Blu-ray book (August 17th)
Based on the Shakespeare play, Kenneth Branagh’s verision of Hamlet – featuring an all-star cast – is now available to buy as a Blu-ray book. The disc also includes an introduction, commentary, featurette, original theatrical trailer, and 1996 Cannes Film Festival Promo. Hamlet is 242 minutes, and is rated PG.
What’s Up, Doc? – Blu-ray (August 10th)
This classic Barbra Streisand comedy from 1972 is now available on Blu-ray. Including scene-specific commentary by Barbra Streisand, full commentary by dir. Peter Bogdanovich, a vintage featurette, and theatrical trailer, Streisand fans are going to want to check this one out. What’s Up, Doc? is 94 minutes, and is rated G.
National Lampoon’s Vacation – Blu-ray (August 10th)
This comedic classic about a family vacation gone wrong, follows the same characters that were later seen in the other ‘vacation’ movies, including the classic Christmas Vacation. Special features include a commentary, and introduction to the film. National Lampoon’s Vacation is 98 minutes, and is rated PG.
Clash of the Titans (2010 version) – Blu-ray (July 27th)
Based on the Harryhausen classic of the ‘80’s, this new version with Avatar’s Sam Worthington might be of interest for fans of the original to check out. The disc includes an alternate ending, featurette, and additional scenes. You can read our original review of this title here. Clash of the Titans is 106 minutes, and is rated 14A.
