On September 28th, Criterion Collection released The Thin Red Line on DVD & Blu-ray.  Terrence Malick hadn’t directed a movie in 20 years when he blasted back onto the film scene in 1998 with this all-star war epic.  Focused on the WWII battle for Guadalcanal, this adaptation of James Jones’s 1962 novel explores philosophical questions like no other Hollywood production.

 

Critically acclaimed at its time of release, The Thin Red Line was honoured with 7 Oscar nominations – including Best Picture – but ultimately lost to Shakespeare in Love.  This pristine Criterion release is the perfect way to add the film to your collection.

 

The DVD includes numerous bonus features including commentary, interviews with the cast and crew, 14 minutes of outtakes, and WWII newsreels from Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands, as well as a booklet featuring an essay by film critic David Sterritt and a 1963 reprint by James Jones.
