Blu-ray Release: Alien Anthology

Today marks the hugely anticipated arrival of the Alien Anthology on Blu-ray, courtesy of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.  This is the first time any of the four films are available in High Definition, and we even get two extra discs simply packed with bonus material.  The release comes just in time for Halloween.

First up are arguably the two most important films included in the set – Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi/horror classic that started it all, Alien, and James Cameron’s 1986 sequel, Aliens.  Next we get David Fincher’s 1992 effort (and also his first feature film) Alien 3, and Jean Pierre Jeunet’s 1997 follow-up, Alien Resurrection.

The six discs come beautifully packaged in a book of sorts, with a cardboard page for every disc.  At the back is a handy booklet explaining the exclusive MU-TH-UR mode which allows interactivity between discs, and a guide to the overwhelming amount of bonus features.  Also featured is a note from Ridley Scott, where he mentions the forthcoming prequel.  Although pricey, the Alien Anthology on Blu-ray is the perfect way to add these films to your collection, and the sheer amount of content will offer much worthy excitement for the many hardcore fans.

Alien is 116 minutes and rated R.  Aliens is 137 minutes and rated 18A.  Alien 3 is 115 minutes and rated R.  Alien Resurrection is 109 minutes and rated R.
