Blu-ray Release: The Bridge on the River Kwai

November 2, 2010

Today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing director David Lean’s classic WWII epic The Bridge on the River Kwai on Blu-ray.  Following British P.O.W.s as they construct a bridge in enemy-occupied Burma, unaware of the Allies plans to destroy it, the film still remains a spectacular production.  This is the first time it is available in HD.

Originally released in 1957, The Bridge on the River Kwai went on to be nominated for 8 Academy Awards.  The film ultimately took home 7 Oscars, including Best Picture.

The Blu-ray includes footage of actors William Holden & Alec Guinness on The Steve Allen Show, newly discovered audio of Holden narrating the film’s premiere, a picture-in-graphics track, and a DVD of the film – which also includes bonus material.

It all comes beautifully packaged with an attached 32-page commemorative book including behind-the-scenes info and filmography’s of the cast and crew, as well as 12 collectible reproductions of the original theatrical lobby cards.  Simply packed with content, the entire set comes highly recommended.

The Bridge on the River Kwai is 162 minutes and rated PG.
